Western Illinois | We used to feed bag mineral years ago and dad seemed to think the cows overconsumed so we switched to mineral and salt blocks quite a while ago and then this year we went back to bagged mineral at the advice of our local Kent feed dealer. Once again it seems like when compared to the blocks they are eating way too much. 16 cows and calves and 1 bull are going through approx 200-225 pounds of mineral a month. This is about $80-$90 a month.
Is this normal or whats a better option than what were doing?
Seems like when we used mineral and salt blocks we would go 3 months per block.
I have moved the 3 compartment feeder around the pasture to get further from water and it didnt really seem to make much difference on consumption. | |
