West Chazy, New York | When I was a kid communion Sundays were four times a year, and the best part was the bread. For some reason the Church of the Brethren has long used a recipe that is basically sugar, butter, cream, and enough flour to hold it together. None of this wimpy wheat paper stuff for us! Once a year or so I mix up a batch for snacks. I would do it more often, but I tend to eat it all within a week or so and it really isn't the most healthy thing, but it sure is good. It doesn't look like much, but looks are deceiving. 1/2 lb. butter 1 and 1/2 pint heavy cream 1/2 cup sugar 7 cups flour Melt the butter, stir in cream and sugar until dissolved. Add flour until stiff enough to roll. Roll into strips about 1/8 inch thick, cut into strips, bake at 350 on a cookie sheet for about 15 minutes. It shouldn't be brown except maybe just a little on the bottom. After it cools it has a definite sweet taste to it.
