Subject: Which way to go on a new engine?

Northern CA
The other day I asked if anyone knew where I could find a reman 3208T Cat for my fertilizer spreader. I have finally found a few. I don't think I had any fuel problems with my old engine, but it did slightly over rev and then spun a main bearing and the crank shifted forward and locked up. I assume when we get it the rest of the way apart we will find a thrust bearing shifted and that is what allowed the crank to slide and jam up against the block.

Anyway, my question: A reman long block is $5000. A reman complete engine, injector pump, injectors, manifolds, everything but air conditioning compressor, air brake compressor, starter and alternator is $9000. I am leaning on going the more expensive route now thinking it might be more trouble free in the end. What are your guy's thoughts?
