It's interesting and sobering to ponder the moral dilemma posed when the Allies had to, in effect, sacrifice troops they could have saved with the information gained, except to do so would have revealed that the "unbreakable" code had been smashed.
A classic Star Trek problem of the needs of the many Vs the needs of the few.
