Caution: this is the first stalk of a row

Planted: April 19th

Last rain: 1" about June 16th

I've got 24 rows like this in the driveway to my shop that I drive by EVERY morning. And I wonder EVERY morning "Why are all of these stalks filling 2 to 3 ears ? It's bone dry here."

They have not received any more water. But they obviously have more room because they're on the outside. These are 36" rows planted at 32,500. I continue to wish for the seed industry to develop genetics for full flex ears that I can plant at 26K so I don't burn up my soil bank of nutrients growing 36 to 40K plants that produce a nubbin of an ear in these stressful years.

Just my ignorance I guess . . .
