My last heifer to calve this year had a good size bull calf out in the stalks this morning. At least she had it before the cold rain coming down now supposed to be followed by snow tonight. It is a relief to have all heifers calved now and no problems. A few cows to calve yet but they know what they're doing and less of a concern...knock on wood. I really like the calves and calving ease out of my U070 bull. It was interesting to see one 16 day old bull calf spend all morning like he was "guarding" the new calf and the heifer. The "guard calf" is usually running around and checking on his dam to see if it is snack time but today spent all morning right around the new calf in corn stalks while his dam and the other calves were in fresh grass I opened up today. I have never seen a calf behave like this before. Here are some pictures. Jim at Dawn
