Subject: Candy Bar Marketing Approach....whatta ya think?

Central Kansas
Over on the Machinery side I lamented the fact that I have had to haul my little JD 2630 small square baling tractor to the dealership for a transmission shifter rod repair. With luck, I will see it again for something the small side of $2500, but you know how that goes.

So....in the midst of small square baling a much smaller crop of brome grass hay than normal, I think I have hit on a marketing gambit that will help pay for the tractor repair. I will call it the "Candy Bar Marketing Approach" and it is fairly simple. I have cranked back the size and weight of my brome bales from 60 pounders at 40-42" long to 45 pounders at 36-38" long. Just like candy bars, I have made them smaller and will either charge the same price....or just slightly more for this new improved product. Whatta ya think? Customers are hores owners. Have gone from about 33 bales per ton to 44 bales per ton. Same price per bale....11 more bales.
