Subject: Landscaping yard

Turner County, SD
Next spring we are planning to landscape around our home. We will be putting in sidewalks, new lawn and low maintenance plants. My problem is our driveway in an L shape, so when we bring cattle home from pastures or send them out to pasture, they take the shortest distance between two points and that is right across my lawn. I don't want to go to the trouble of a new lawn and then have hoof prints all over it. I don't want to fence it in because it feels claustrophobic.
Is there some sort of landscaping I can do instead that would keep the cattle on the driveway?
