| An article in the Des Moines Sunday Register wrote of a large sweet corn producer. He supplied a major grocery store with 20 plantings for harvest from July thru Sept.
"Overall however his crop yield has been down as much as 30 percent." "It's uneven across the field. There are ears that are ready right next to a plant that is stunted". Where water from spring's incessant rains stood too lang on nice flat fields, the corn is struggling. On the usually less prized hilly fields, the corn is doing fine.
Many times I have read comments that a high sweet corn yield implies a high corn yield. If that is the case, we may be in for some disappointments on our usually higher producing fields. That producer has run a machine thru the field while we pick spots or just visualize from the road.
This is just one producer commenting, but will we be in for some more surprises? His harvester is telling his story. | |
