Some fields on mine smaller than 20 acres are coninuous soybean. They are surrounded by woods or creeks. Growing corn in them just becomes a food plot for raccoons, deer and beavers. Seems soybeans can grow through the constant nibbling of deer. Raccoons don't eat beans and beavers can't build houses and dams with bean plants like they do with corn stalks. Beans weather creek rises better too. I test for soybean cysts, no-till and fertilize with P and K. I can yield in the mid 40 bu/ac in normal years without biblical rains. Does anybody else have continuous beans? It appears to have worked for the past 10 years but I always do wonder if I am setting this up for a problem. By the way, I got them in last of April during that planting window we had. Fall sprayed, the fields were clear then, but now the weeds are covering them in some areas. Won't be able to spray until ??? Who knows? Best to you all. Stay safe. |
