Subject: How to handle 12' spruce trees in wire basket?

Southern Alberta
I have bought a dozen spruce trees that are 12-14' tall and in burlap and wire baskets.

Have to pick them up next week and am wondering how to handle them. Will a set of pallet forks on a big skid steer be enough to lift the trees (I would need a 6' chain hung over the forks), or does it require special equipment.

The root ball will be 44" at the largest part. Should the new holes be dug with a backhoe, or rent a 36" tree auger bit and just ream the hole out a little so the top is 46-48" diameter?

Never handled big trees before and contractors want $200/tree to handle and plant them.

When tying up large trees, do you need the wire/rope to be a 1/4 of the way down from the top, or can you brace a tree 1/2 way up the trunk. I do get gusty winds from time to time.

Getting too old to ever see a 1' spruce tree mature, so thought I would start with bigger trees.

Any other great advice on this size of tree?
