Subject: Just an Illinois thing?

Central Illinois
I have seen Tall corn, Short corn and Stunted corn. All have been relatively "proportional". What amazes me this season is how low ear placement is regardless of hybrid, soil type or planting date . Here in the "I" state, ears average chest height (I'm 6'1") with some variation by hybrid. Even with 7' corn have a hard time finding ears waist height. Most are at the 5th collar about 20 inches off the ground. Any one else notice the same ?
