| Here's some eye-opening statistics from an article by Prof. Geo. Brinkman of the University of Guelph:
1. Canadian farm debt in 2007: $49.8 billion (up 300% from 1981)
U.S. farm debt increase, 1981 to 2007: up 19%
2. Canadian debt-to-income ratio 2004-2007: 23-to-1
1970: 2-to-1
U.S. 2004-2007: 2.9-to-1
3. Equity-to-income ratios, average Canada: 110.6-to-1
Ontario: 293-to-1
U.S.: 26-to-1
He goes on to point out that when interest rates start to climb it's going to get ugly around here.
