Star Prairie, WI | I have 3 newer chainsaws, all use 50:1 mix ratio, and one 1970s vintage Olympik that takes 20:1. The Oly is the "big dog", 28" bar. Newer saws get used for everything small enough for them to handle, >20" stuff, because the big one is heavy and vibrates the heck out of you.
I'd like to only keep one mix of gas, because a gallon of 20:1 will last longer than the gas itself will (I could mix 1/2 gallon I guess, but it seems counterproductive). I'm just wondering here what changed as they went to the leaner mixture? Did the oils improve that much, or were better materials used in the engines to handle less lubrication. I've tried running one of the newer ones on the thick mix, but fouled a lot of plugs that way.
What I'm getting at is are modern 2 cycle oils that much improved over what was out there 20+ years ago that I'm safe running this thing on 50:1 like everything else, or do I need to keep its own juice yet? | |
