| If you had 80 acres of good pasture and ran 240 ewes (3/ac.) and had the ewes paid for, what would be a good goal for profit per ewe? Consider all costs including retaining some ewe lambs for replacements.
I’m thinking w the land and ewes debt free, and you weaned 1.5 lambs per ewe, maybe $80 to $100 per ewe would be attainable. What do you think?
Another question I have - is it possible to spread the lambing out over a few months? I like the idea of having a steady work flow with maybe a couple slower months. I have a background in dairy and like the steady work compared to say grain farming or having your lambing or beef calving all in one season.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP. THANKS !!
btw i'm not saying i may have all the land and ewes debt free but please answer as if it was and then I can back out the cost of the financing needed. Just the way I think. Would have a good equity portion. | |
