Central Ne. | I live in central Ne. Planted my wheat around Sep. 20th in dry dirt. The seed just laid unsprouted till mid march after just enough snow to set the seed in motion. I now think a good portion of the seed is going to emerge. I am tempted to leave insurance strips and drill oats into the now emerging wheat and cut it all for hay. I'm a cattle man and I could really use the hay. But then I wonder if the wheat could still make a decent grain crop? This is the first time in my farming career that the wheat didn't get started in the fall. Could it still make a grain crop, or should I just leave strips and possibly collect insurance (and hay)? Any advice much appreciated .... thanks | |
