Northern NE Panhandle | We notilled 200 ac of spring wheat into sunflower stalks on March 17th thought we did everything right and it's starting to head out. It's only about a foot tall, we planted into good moisture and figured we'd get a foot or two of early spring snow on it that never came. It was in the 90's for a couple weeks after it was planted and got it going good then turned cool. Spring wheat here is kind of a trick to grow here as it's usually to wet to get it planted early enough and when it's filling the heads it's usually 100 degrees and bakes it. Total opposite this year. I love my occupation but it gets pretty damn discouraging at times to. | |
