Hastings, NE | I purchased a place this winter that has approximately 9 acres of hay ground. It is a mixture of brome grass and other pasture grasses. I have two people interested in swathing and baling it. My question is what would be a good price to charge for the hay. They will be doing the swathing, baling and hauling. The previous owner paid $350 to have the hay cut and baled and he was trying to get $65 a bale (large round). I am not sure how he came out.
The first guy who asked said they usually take half the hay for their work and buy the other half. Does this sound like a fair deal for both parties? I have never had to deal with hay before.
