Yesterday i was going down the highway past one of our fields i noticed some corn rows that were greener than the rest of the field. So today i went out to investigate. I found that 12 rows(our corn planter is 12 rows) for a distance of 20 ft were double planted. I stepped it off and found 67000 population and the corn next to it was at 31000. The plants in that little area had a darker green color compared to the rest of the field. The plants in the small area were about 11 inches tall compared to 9 inches tall for the surrounding plants both were at the four leaf collar stage. I am sure that it probably got a double shot of pop up fertilizer(normal rate was 8 gal/a of 10-34-00 with some zinc mixed in) Can anybody speculate as to why the corn is greener and taller, is it because of the extra fertilizer or because of the higher population or a combination of both.
