Subject: USB Power supply

Westport, IN

I have a Western Digital passport drive I use for imaging hard drives and other Archives.  I am having trouble on a couple of older computers with the USB not being powerful enough to run the drive.  I can unplug some devices and make it work, sometimes.  Would rather not hassle with unplugging devices.  I tried to use a USB hub that was powered externally, but it couldn't find the drive in windows explorer.  I will not add a driver for USB hub that is temporary.  Does anyone make an adapter too power USB while being straight through on the data?  I'm considering splicing in the cable a jack to add power for the drive.  I have a cable just like this for an external CD drive, but the drive end is different. It is a micro-b USB I think.
