Subject: Is planter down pressure blown out of proportion or needed in no-till?

WC Indiana
I have a Case 1200 planter with the RID (reduced inner diameter gauge wheels). The Case closing system fractures the sidewall in similar to how a martin and dawn closers fracture. The leading disk opener on the Case easily penetrates even when it is pretty dry so I have never changed my down pressure. My no-till soils have very good structure to begin with. I would think a key factor would be just to not plant when it's wet.
Since I have never had planter with down force maybe I just don't know what I am missing. Does anyone have good data on downforce on a Case planter in no-till or downforce data in general?
