South Central, Iowa | I'm involved with a group of folks locally that are extremely interested in helping those less fortunate. We're starting to actually do the leg work on the ideas we've had for quite a while. One of them was utilizing local producers and their products to help those with food needs. I've almost always got a hog that I could sell at a discounted rate to someone rather than take a killing going to the buying station. Does anyone know what the regulations are in regards to how we can get this to families who need it? Whether it be transfer of ownership of the animal to them prior to slaughter, by means of using money from the food shelf donations, or whether we can just hand out the meat with out jumping through hoops at processing.
