Subject: Pay attention at the auctions!

North Liberty and South Bend, Indiana
Attended an auction today and bought a "mechanics special" tractor. I quit bidding at $4750 and somehow as I was walking away the ring man told me I was in at $5250 then the auctioneer said sold. I said, no I was out when the other guy hit on $5000.... I'm done. So he says ok I took care of it you got it at $5000 my mistake. Problem was I had just bought some saddle tanks too and he had my number on their list so he wrote it on the tractor with the $5000 price tag. Luckily (only after getting married!) I have a way of sweet talking women and I explained the situation to the ladies in the office and they got the price corrected back to the $4750. Basically the ring man tried to take me for $500. I can't say if this is typical of this sale yard or even this auctioneer but that ring man was awful close to getting drug out and called out in front of several hundred people. So, make sure you pay attention at the auctions and speak up if something isn't right. OK, I feel a bit better now.
