North Central Illinois | I think you misunderstand my point. The education system has always been flawed. Back when folks Archie's age were in school lots of kids got left in the dust because nobody understood what issues a particular child had or how to reach them. I know a lot of people who were dyslexic as kids and nobody even knew what that was or attempted to find out why the child was having a tough time learning. They were labeled stupid and treated as such. Back before 1960 there were a lot of people who were teaching school who didn't have the skills to teach children and had no business in that position. The result was a lot of kids who got a poor education. We have many of these same problems now plus some different ones. My point is that looking back on prior generation's educational opportunities might be good for nostalgia but it was far from perfect. Much like now. | |
