Fruita CO | Not a 300, but my Cummins story.
My boss at the JD store bought a 62 Emeryville with a NTC280 & 5x4. We took the bullhauler box off & made a tractor out of it, which it was originally Somebody named it The Turtle...He bought a brand new Muv-all hydraulic fold taligate lowboy, nice trailer. Everybody that drove it said it was turned up, ran more like a 335, ran pretty good for a year or so, then it seized up outside of Tuba City AZ, on the Navajo Rez, with a 425 hay cuber on...we were scrambling around to get a set of tools & parts to do a one-holer on the side of the road when the driver called & said he let her cool off for a couple hours & she fired up again. He babied it along & made it home with the cuber. When we pulled it down, it had 3 different styles of pistons & liners...sort of a history of 855 parts. In-framed it & it ran for about 5 more years, made several trips to Waterloo & Moline to pick up machinery. Finally seized again over by Fort Collins, that time it blew a liner & broke the block...it sold at the dealer's auction to the local truck salvage guy... | |
