The best part of having local microbreweries is that I get their "spent grain" from the brewing process for livestock feed. Free of charge, just have to haul it home. The grain is low in carbs, high in protein, and the cows and sheep just love it.
Back in the early 70's we could get a dump truck load of spent malt from the G. Heilman Brewing co. out of LaCrosse, WI, (Old Style). We would wheel that heavy, hot crap into the stanchion barn by the wheel barrow then get to pitch out what the cows didn't eat. Ah, the good old days!
