We did it on our parents home yrs. ago ,but issues in old homes is those guys 100 yrs.+ ago never knew much about spaciung studs and of course never tossed a board out so you have 2 x 4 in 2 pieces nailed together od on set crossways in the wall,ect. as it din't matter then as they covered it with 1" planks and the lath & plaster inside....hoiw much it helps,don't know...sure can't hurt...ceiling insulation most important,like you outside keeping your head warm
