I made that mistake for at least 10 years, and then began to try to do better. My wife would gently and very kindly point out things I was missing in life but understood it was my decision. Looking back she was more right than I knew at the time. I now spend more time with family and with friends and love my life, and wife, more than ever before.
I noticed at funerals, nobody cared how much you worked, they cared about how good a person you are to others.
I eventually learned to manage time better. That meant working less, and the irony was that in doing so I started to make more money.
