Almost weekly I know someone that has passed.  Normally not someone close, but someone I know.  I was thinking of this a while back, seems like there's a lot more leaving this world than in the past, but, I'm getting older, my elders are getting older, I also know more people now than I did say maybe 10-20 years ago.  I'm sure there's a tipping point on who you knew to who you know that is living.  I was thinking of my grandma, she's 95, I imagine she knows a lot more people that have passed than who is still alive that she knows, that would be if her memory was still in good shape, unfortunately it's starting to fade.
