North Central Illinois | Unless the small farmer is producing a high value crop for a niche market, there's just not enough cash for much new stuff. Simply not enough gross $ to make it work.
Now, in my case I am producing higher value crops (organic), but still using older stuff because it can get the job done and there are higher ROI things to invest the revenue in. In my area that's, grain storage, drainage tile, and land. Well, I guess land doesn't have a good rate of return at current prices, but it's generally a solid long term investment. More of the retirement security kind of deal. | |
