North Dakota | The last new piece of equipment I purchased was in 2011. The last used piece of equipment was in 2016. I try not to concern myself with others and their lack or abundance of shiney paint. There are good farmers around me that have a plethora of both. If it pencils out I try to upgrade. It hasn’t for some time. I too am a smaller farmer. 2,000 acres is small in my corner of the planet. I suppose farming more leads to earning slightly more and spreading costs over more acres. Some of these operations are probably carrying a pretty substantial debt load also. It is a matter of choices. In the last decade I have chose not to get big, limit machinery purchases and use available income to buy a quarter of land. I think what you see are just different choices made by different farmers for varying reasons. | |
