I'll tell you this, the late great Orville Sweet who was the top exec at the American Polled Hereford Association through most of the 1960's and 70's had his last cows in our pasture in Iowa before he retired and dispersed. He had this crazy idea of crossing Herefords with Senepols. They were some of ugliest calves I've ever seen and their short hair coats and big ears were not very ideal for upper Midwest climates. Needless to say after seeing the results he didn't go back to that cross.
We still have the Paul Scale we bought from him like the one linked below that we will weigh the cows at calves at weaning this coming weekend.
