Subject: RE: Wire winder ?

southern MN
I bought a Jet winder a few years ago, pto. With the traveling spool for even winding.

I have not gotten along with it well at all. The traveling deal will catch as the spirals are ground rough, and the whole thing just doesn't work well as the new style brake they use is either locked solid or spins freely there is no chance of feathering it.

We have an old one I don't see a name on it, bolts to the Farmall H and is older than me. It uses old check wire spools to wind the wire on. I'm unsure if it was for fencing, check wire, or both. It is kinda similar in design to the new Jet; but it actually works. I wore the flat link sprockets out on it, I should see if I can get some roller chain sprockets to repair it. But then I'm married to use it on the H, and its starting to use as much oil as gas, not a good tractor to idle around a field for a couple hours.....
