Iowa - Floyd County | My last hog show was in 2003 at that point it was about 50-50 production hogs and show pigs, I showed our production pigs. My fair did two different classes, a derby show and a live show. I always did very well in the derby show and always got beat in the live show. I think now it is pretty much all "show pig" genetics. I do know that most people spend way too much on show animals now. When I was showing I raised my pigs exactly how our other pigs were raised, other than mine got the occasion bath, and I always made a little money doing it. Now it seems like it's almost a race to see who can spend more to win. | |
