Subject: RE: Haylage vs. Balage

We milk about 240 and do everything baleage and have corn silage custom chopped. Probably do about 1000 bales a year with $6 dollars per bale in wrap. That is individually wrapped. Use a krone Baler with all the knives in( I believe 24), and Mchale wrapper set up in tandem. Then use a self loading and unloading keltec bale wagon that can handle wrapped bales. As far as feeding, Roll them over a couple times and doesn’t take any longer to feed with tmr. I would agree that variability could be a problem, but uniform fields will help. Try to size equipment so drying time is similar. I feel a big plus is being able to feed different cuttings, mix and match so to speak, to create a more consistent tmr year round. It allows me to put feed up by myself, wouldn’t recommend it, but can be done when in a pinch.
