If the reason the tricycle is not an option is mud, the skid loader won't do well either. Adding a couple thousand to the budget and lowering the hours of the skid steers you're considering will make it less of a gamble as far as getting a "good" one.
Lots of versatility and attachment options with the skid steer. Get one size bigger than you think you need.
