"Short term pain for long term gain." We as a country have lost this prospective.
Couple of observations -

1) China is bluffing knowing full well that they need use more than we need them. They have invested tons of money in the US and the only way they can get it back is if the US stays solvent.

2) China is hoping that political pressure will cause Trump to fold. Trump is not a politician and does not play by those rules.

2) China knows we are the only consistent reliable source of protein one regime change in SA and they are in trouble.

3) China knows that North Korea is going to create a huge demand for protein.

4) Trump is using North Korea as a bargaining tool with China - China knows that North Korea will be their biggest competitor for protein and neither country has the resources to supply that internally.

Yes, it will be painful for a while but long term this will have long term economic benefits.
