North Dakota | So what is the plan? Keep raising corn and beans cause that is what we do? Death by a thousand cuts is still death. I don’t raise just two crops and have never raised corn but this has been on my mind as of late. Cover crop fallow to preserve moisture, gain nutrients, organic matter and stave the bleeding? If this plays out ugly inputs, machinery costs, land rent will take several years to adjust. Interest rates are rising. Producing more of what is needed in less quantity is surely not the answer. I think the time is soon coming for drastic changes in what we grow and how we grow it. Corn-Beans-Corn-Beans-Corn-Beans ad infinitum won’t work. So Beans-Cover crop/fallow-Corn? Other ideas. | |
