southcentral Minnesota | Now I don’t carry insurance so I will plant something someday, always have had that mindset. Insurance has changed the need to raise a crop for a return to what will possibly provide the greatest return or guaranteed return. In 2013 some never attempted to plant anything but a cover crop, in the end we ended up with a possible 7 total days of a chance at field work in May and June. Some came to that conclusion very early that year so if you think the 12th is early you don’t know how some people think and how sharp their pencil is. I ended up with 10 % of my acres not planted and less than stellar yields, 80% of average but decent prices a good return.
I can see why some are having deja vu, but I’m not of the opinion it’s like 13 yet. Unfortunately I can see a bit of the foot dragging by some that I thought just as in 13 had an opportunity to get something accomplished that didn’t. | |
