west central Iowa		I've never tried this, but I read about it. The guy taped a piece of pvc pipe to the open end of a styrofoam cup and taped the styrofoam cup to a stethoscope. He walked along putting the open end of the pipe to the ground, he said the closer he got to the leak the louder it got and when he got right next to it, it sounded like a water fall.
