NW Washington
We had a leak in the line from the city water meter to our house. Leak detection company charged a mere $500 to come out an locate the leak. The fix cost more than that.
The leak detection guy blew nitrogen gas into the house water system and had some fancy electronics that detected where the nitrogen came out of the underground line.

Given the cost of finding and repairing a leak I think your best option is to just replace the line since it is as old as you say. The line is probably pretty rotten and probably about plugged anyway.
The right guy might be able to put in a poly line without digging a trench with a vibratory plow.
