SW South Dakota | My prayers go out to your community. When I was 16, we lost my brother in an accident. He was 19. It is extremely hard to deal with. There wasn't a day go by for at least two years I didn't think about him or the accident. Then as time went by, it took up less time in my mind. It is still hard for me to talk about, even with my wife.
Thanks to my wife, I still have a cow that is the granddaughter of my brother's very first 4H calf. I had forgotten her history until my wife was visiting while we were dating and she really liked that cow. I was going to cull her the fall before but lost some other cows so I kept her around. At 15 she is still here, but just as a pasture pet. To much of a story with her to sell now. Her last calf was born the year we got married. It was also the only heifer calf she had out of 11 calves. So we kept that heifer to keep the lineage to my brother's first cow alive in our herd. | |
