Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow
I just went out and grabbed a sample of the last little bit of corn in the bin from last year. Last year's crop here was extremely drought stressed early, short plants & short ears but due to some rain in very late July and August went on to make corn. I counted out a random sample of 100 kernels, weighed them on a gram scale and calculated the kernel count for 56 lbs, 60,800 kernels per 56 lb bushel. Now the question becomes, how much does the heavier kernels compensate for the lower yield, in this case 120 bpa. Obviously in this case, if a normal crop would have yielded 160-180 bpa, not enough.
Ray, I'm not sure I'm buying the heavy kernel story.
