south east Indiana
Mt Hope has a good demand for lambs and goats so that is sure a plus for you.
Goats are a bit different than sheep - prefer browse/ sheep like grass but clean up weeds really well.
Both need GREAT fence, goats will climb and stand on fences more than sheep. Check out Premier 1 for portable electric netting.
Both can get their heads caught in fences and neither of them seem to have a reverse to get Un stuck by themselves.
Goat horns make getting their heads stuck more of a problem.
Both susceptible to parasites and coccidia way more than cattle. I think goats have more of a problem than sheep.
MUST rotate pastures and let pastures rest at least 45 days. Might need to deworm every month through the summer until you figure out all the ins and outs of rotation, feed, weaning ect. Our heavy soil, heat and humidity just add to the problem.
Hooves will need trimmed
Goats HATE being wet
Sheep are a bit tougher when it comes to cold and/or wet

Cross bred does I think are better.

With the smaller size sheep and goats need quicker intervention when things aren't right. The wait and see approach will end badly. They do not show illness as obviously sometimes so you have to pay attention. Predators, dogs are a concern as well
