My son is Type 1. Before he received his insulin pump he took Humalog at mealtimes and Lantus at night for the long term basal. Now that he is on a pump he only uses Humalog. The pump is set with a basal rate that maintains his blood glucose levels in lieu of the Lantus. He inputs the number of carbs into his pump prior to each meal.

The rates he uses vary during the course of the day/night and the time of day for each meal. He has been on a pump for 2 years now. It is much simpler to use than the epipens.

Everyone's rates throughout the day are different. People are like farms when it comes to insulin, no two are the same.

If you want, my email is good.

My daughter has had type 1 for 7 years now and I agree with everything Rick has said.
