Yes, tire prices should be going up. There is a shortage of butadiene which is the by product of oil. The reason for the shortage is one major facility is down for maintenance. I am a rubber chemist and we are right now spot pricing our synthetic rubber that we are getting in. For the month of April, the price went up 50 percent. They are saying that June will be the peak and then prices should come back down.


I have a question for you if you don't mind, maybe it requires another thread-

Why are all the tires that were/are built in the last 8 years or so dry rot so horribly? I have a set of 30 year old kelly/springfield and firestone duals that are dry rotted some, but still are in overall good shape, while I have a set of good year rear tires on the same tractor that were purchased new about 6 years ago and are already dry rotting really bad. Same for ATV/UTV tires which I sell a few of. all of them regardless of brand seem to start dry rotting rapidly in about 1.5 years time.

What causes this and how can it be avoided?
