East Central SD | I no longer have a cow herd but what worked the best for me was to set up four portable panels in the calving area (set up in a square). Swing one panel open and slowly walk the calf into the panels, swinging the panel closed behind us. With a little straw it was a nice dry spot to lay the calf down to tag, band, and give a vitamin shot while the cow would be watching/glaring at me through the panels. When I was done, swing the panel open and everyone would walk away without much animosity toward one another. | |
