I put 3 stalls in in 1993 for $10 plus the sand. Used a length of 3" vacuum line I had laying around. I drilled 1/2" holes every 2' and put lag bolts in cement anchors. I put 4-5 washers on the lag bolts below the PVC pipe to provide drainage. It worked out well. Can you get a skid loader down the alley? If not you will want one, certain cows will paw a lot of sand out of the stalls.

I had 3 sand stalls and 48 stalls with pasture mats. They each had their advantages and disadvantages.
