Had a 5 year old beef cow go down about a week before she was due. Pretty adamant about keeping free choice mineral out for the cows and also take a grain mix just about every day with the minerals in it. Figured this cow pinched something or was injured somehow. Got advice from vet. After she was down 30 hours we started to induce her. Then I talked with the nutrition company who deals with mainly dairies. Beef cows are just mobile milk machines for calves right? Said could be milk fever. Tell tale sign is cold ears. Guess what her ears were cold. Gave her a tube of calcium last night at 5. She wasn't up at 5 this morning but was at 7. So now I gotta babysit a cow bcuz vet said when you induce they usually require assistance. A never ending learning process!
