Everyone has a different desire, drive, goal, and wants it likes. These also change as one gets older. I have a dairy farm with 3-5 other family members. When I was younger and starting I loved running the equipment, but I also milked the cows almost every day and knew all of them. I currently don't milk, we hire that out. I have lost some of the desire to do field work also. We have decent equipment, but it seems like I should be doing more of the management stuff around the farm instead of playing in a tractor. It's easier to find a person to drive a tractor than it is to fix one. I have missed or forgot many marketing calls that needed to be made, whether it's contracting milk in feed etc. Farming can be very stressful and he tractor used to be my escape. Now with call phones it's just another office space. |
